MISSION STATEMENT |
Equal opportunities |
Buckinghamshire Adult Learning aims to ensure that everyone who wants to learn is able to and that no one is excluded on the grounds of disability, gender, age, religious beliefs, ethnicity, sexual orientation or culture. We welcome learners with disabilities and will do our best to ensure that appropriate support is available. Our policy can be found on our website (www.adultlearningbcc.ac.uk) or from our centres. We use our enrolment form to monitor the effectiveness of this policy. |
Disabled facilities |
All lecture rooms at the Abbey have integrated hearing loops and we have a hearing loop
‘necklace’ for use at other sites to help learners with a hearing problem.
We have very limited facilities for wheelchair users and Summer School courses are widely sited
on different levels and locations. We can arrange a wheelchair for use by learners with a carer.
Please ring to discuss and reserve. A deposit of £25 will apply.
If you have a disability, please telephone us to discuss your support needs prior
to booking the course. |
Special diets |
Vegetarian options are readily available both at Missenden Abbey and Pipers Corner. However, please inform us in writing at the time of booking of any specific medical diets. You will then be advised as to whether we are able to accommodate your requirements. |
Special requests |
If you have any special requests that would add to the enjoyment of your stay, please advise us in writing at the time of booking. Whether it is arranging for your friend to be accommodated in an adjacent room or asking for a vegetarian diet to be provided, we will try to fulfil your request if at all possible. |
Transport |
Residents at Missenden Abbey and learners in B&B accommodation situated within walking distance of the Abbey, whose courses are at Pipers Corner, will be provided with free transport to Pipers Corner School.
If lack of transport is the reason you can’t come, do let us know. We may be able to find someone who can help you. |
Evening social programme |
The Summer School evening programme provides opportunities to learn about the work of new and established tutors, to hear varied and stimulating guest lecturers and to enjoy performances by Summer School tutors and learners. A detailed programme of evening activities will be sent to all enrolled learners prior to Summer School. |
Bed & Breakfast facilities |
When accommodation is fully booked at Missenden Abbey, we hope that you will consider the option of staying in local Bed & Breakfast. Our landladies have been associated with Summer School for a very long time, many as Abbey learners themselves, and they provide warm and friendly hospitality to Summer School tutors and learners.
Please request an up-to-date listing of B&Bs by calling our office: 01296 383582.
